Dateline NBC will be airing the new Barry Beach episode on August 2, 2013 at 8:00pm MST. Please be sure to tune in. This episode will be different from the previous 2 episodes that have aired… since 2008. As with many, MFJ looks forward to seeing what Dateline has to share about this strange case.
I commented on Dateline’s show about this case years ago, and my belief in Barry Beach’s innocence has only strengthened in the years that have since passed. If ever there has been a miscarriage of justice – justice taking a back seat to prosecutor and police stubbornness and hubris – it is this disturbing case.
The judge who eventually set him free, based on new evidence/witnesses made his decision based on evidence and logic; who knows what logic (or lack thereof) and prejudice were in the minds of the four justices who out-voted the three in his favour and sent him back to prison.
I fervently hope that this honourable, infinitely patient and innocent man can be freed while his ageing mother is still alive to enjoy his company.
I know too well how a coersed false confession can lead to pain and suffering. My sister, Kathy Whorton, was killed in 1981, and Barry Beach even confessed to her death just so he could be free of the torment from the detectives questioning him. Those same detectives obtained false confessions from Henry Lee Lucas and Otis Toole for the death of my sister. Over twenty-six years later, we discovered her real killer from DNA evidence. I am praying that justice will finally be served as it was in my sister’s case and Barry will finally be released.
I have said it many times and any mother with a new baby in the house knows what sleep deprivation will do to you….you’d say and do anything just to nod off for a while. Give Barry a new trial. It’s the right and ethical thing to do. How they could overturn Phillips decision is positively criminal itself.
I am so pleased to see the truth presented this way on Dateline. Thank you Dateline. We still live in a country that is free enough to speak out and tell the truth. I thought they did a great job fitting the highlights of this case into an hour. There are so many more details but, Dateline, you nailed it!
i pray to god that the real killers confess!!! hopefully that would speed up barry beach being released!!!
I think is it just awful how this poor man has been in prison for so many years and still continues to be there. It is obvious from the Dateline NBC that Barry is innocent and was just an easy scapegoat. I don’t know how the those detectives on that case so many years ago and those girls in that town that were obviously involved can sleep and night and live with the knowledge that an innocent man is behind bars.
